CYP Sessional Therapist

Purpose of the Role
To work in accordance with the ethos of the organisation and co-operatively with the team to provide high quality, professional and dynamic counselling service for children and young people aged 5+ affected by sexual abuse.
Key Accountabilities
- To provide individual counselling and/or therapeutic play to children and young people
- To maintain appropriate records
- To identify any potential safeguarding or risk issues
- To participate in supervision and line management.
Key Responsibilities
To be creative in enabling clients to access and engage with the Service
- To provide individual counselling and/or the use of play or art as therapy to children and young people who are experiencing difficulties with their emotional/mental well-being
- The ability to negotiate and maintain clear contracts with clients
- To assess and evaluate clients’ needs and then provide appropriate support, referral and/or information
- To manage and maintain a case-load
To maintain appropriate records
- To keep appropriate records and notes relating to client work, using the DRASACS’s database (CRMS) ensuring relevant information is readily accessible
- To organise own workload
- Undertake any administration or paperwork relating to clients required by the line manager.
To identify any potential safeguarding or risk issues
- Inform the Counselling Manager of any safeguarding or risk issues arising from client interactions.
- To carry out client assessments
- Making recommendations to the multi-disciplinary team based on the assessment and evaluation of the needs of the client
- Understanding of the implications of working alongside statutory investigations and court proceedings especially with regards to record-keeping, confidentiality and data protection
- Making recommendations and referrals as appropriate
To participate in supervision
- To receive regular line management, in line with DRASACS’ policy.
- To participate fully in regular relevant clinical supervision with an external supervisor approved by DRASACS
Other
- To work as part of the counselling team and support other team members as appropriate to promote the service and increase its accessibility
- To liaise and work in partnership with statutory and voluntary agencies in the interests of the service and needs of the clients
- To undertake such duties as may be required by the Manager which are consistent with the duties and responsibilities of the post.

Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge
Skills
- Understanding and familiarity with trauma-focused therapy and knowledge of sexual abuse dynamics
- Experience of building positive and empathic relationships with clients including working with risk issues
- Ability to work co-operatively with team members, community partners and other staff
- Excellent interpersonal skills including sound clinical judgement, creative and problem solving skills.
- Technological skills necessary to work in an office environment, Eg: MS Office Suite
- Good admin and numeracy skills.
Qualifications & Knowledge
- A relevant professional qualification (Counselling/Psychotherapy Diploma, degree or equivalent level 5 or above qualification working with children).
- Additional specialised training in working with children aged 5 and above
- Registered or Accredited member of BACP or other appropriate professional body such as UKCP
- Accreditation by BACP or UKCP or working towards this
- Knowledge of legal and ethical issues around working with young people and an in-depth working knowledge of child protection issues and safeguarding procedures
- Level 3 Safeguarding
- Knowledge of child-developmental processes
Experience & Behaviours
Experience
- Experience of providing counselling to rape and sexual abuse clients and their families
- Clinical experience of working therapeutically with children and young people
- Good awareness of mental health needs
- Understanding of the key presenting issues including the impact of sexual abuse.
- Awareness of potential barriers to engagement and how these may be overcome.
- Recognise risk & safeguarding, proactively report and support the escalation of concerns.
- Ability to work flexibly and co-operatively as part of a team working within a variety of therapeutic models.
- Experience of carrying out Assessments
- Experience of use of outcome based measurement tools in counselling eg: GAD7 & PHQ9

Rate: £31.00 Per Session
Hours of work: Up to 10 hours available, Monday – Thursday 10am – 6pm
Contract Length: Contract until March 2025
