Doncaster Rape & Sexual Abuse Counselling Service

High Sheriff Gives Seal of Approval

The High Sheriff of South Yorkshire, Mrs Julie Kenny, has visited Doncaster Rape and Sexual Abuse Counselling Service (DRASACS) and has given her official seal of approval for the aims of the charity and the people the charity helps.

Explains Mrs Kenny:

“When I was privileged with the honour of becoming the High Sheriff of South Yorkshire, one of my aims was to visit as many organisations working in the third sector as I physically could. I am now coming to the end of my term of office and I have been humbled by the selfless work done by many charitable organisations working with vulnerable people at their time of greatest need. DRASACS works with women and men who have suffered rape and sexual abuse and makes a significant difference to people through their targeted advice and counselling.”

Mrs Kenny also informed the team that DRASACS is one of the shortlisted charities in this year’s High Sheriff Awards in the Best Community or Faith Group category.

The manager at DRASACS adds:

“It was a pleasure to welcome yet another high profile figure to DRASACS and talk about the vital work that the team here delivers on a daily basis.

“Between October 2011 and September 2012, we received a total of 511 referrals (285 counselling referrals and 226 ISVA referrals). That’s 511 people who have benefited from our expert services, people who we’ve supported to get their lives back on track.”
